As a tutor for Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, I teach English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and I tutor one-on-one with adults who want to improve their literacy skills. In April 2017, I started tutoring Angela. Angela is from Venezuela. She and I meet weekly for individualized English language lessons and during an open-level conversation class. These two sessions create a perfect opportunity for Angela to utilize different learning styles as she reads, writes, listens, and speaks English. Angela is a strong reader and she is making strides with pronunciation. She laughs easily, both in conversation, and when she is frustrated. Angela’s sense of humor and adaptability are fantastic traits for an English language learner.  The division of  hours between private tutoring and group conversation allows Angela to build her confidence and challenge herself weekly.
