Employment Positions

AmeriCorps Member
Positions
Most years in the fall, Literacy Action is on the lookout for part-time AmeriCorps members to spend a year making a positive impact in the lives of families and adults as AmeriCorps member tutors. Members need to be passionate, self-motivated, and ready to serve others. This is a great opportunity for college students, recents graduates, and retirees to give back while gaining teaching and leadership skills. Responsibilities include serving 10-20 hours a week tutoring adults in basic literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL), recruiting and training tutors, and raising awareness for Literacy Action. Through this service opportunity, AmeriCorps members have the chance to gain real-world, life-changing experience while earning a living stipend and an education award at the end of one year of service that can be used to pay for college tuition or pay back eligible student loans. Members generally serve from October to September. Please check with us in September if you are interested in serving as an AmeriCorps tutor with us. You may direct your questions to Sarah Standridge, Program Director, at sstandridge@literacyactionar.org
